An Alternative to Using your Social Security Number
Tax preparers across the country have expressed concern about disclosing their Social Security Numbers (SSNs) on the returns they prepare. In response to these concerns, the IRS is now able to assign an alternative identification number, the Preparer Tax Identification Number or PTIN, for use on returns and refund claims prepared after December 31, 1999. Given the competitive banking industry of today, banks realize they need to provide their clients with as much added value as possible. As such, banks have referred payroll companies as a means to accomplish this goal. However, just as the extremely large banks often fail to meet the needs of their clients, a similar phenomenon has occurred with the large payroll companies. Their similarities are uncanny, ranging from an overly bureaucratic and transactional approach to poor service levels a surprisingly significant number of times. As such, Pay Edge is developing relationships with select regional banks because of our strong synergies. Payroll companies previously ignored the synergies between commercial insurance and payroll until recently. Unfortunately, payroll companies decided to offer commercial insurance as part of their overly diversified product line rather than partner with insurance brokers. Pay Edge, on the other hand, does not want to fall victim to the jack of all trades, master of none mentality. Instead of poorly positioning ourselves as direct competitors to commercial insurance brokers, we would rather develop strategic relationships with true experts within all areas of the commercial insurance industry while maintaining our status as payroll processing experts. Commercial insurance brokers understand they face an increasing threat to their book of business when their clients use other payroll companies. Recognizing a better alternative, many have decided to partner with Pay Edge.
